Private Reformer Pilates vs. Group Classes: Which Is Right for You?
Reformer Pilates is one of the most effective ways to build core strength, improve posture, and move with more control and confidence. But when deciding between private sessions or group classes, it helps to understand the differences and which format best supports your goals.
At HALM, we offer both. Each approach offers unique benefits depending on your experience, preferences, and lifestyle. Here's how to decide what’s right for you.
1. Personalisation vs. Community
Private Reformer Pilates offers a fully personalised experience. Every session is tailored to your goals, your body, and how you move. You’ll get detailed coaching, progress tracking, and hands-on support from your instructor.
Whether you're managing an injury, working on specific performance goals, or just prefer 1:1 attention, this format allows for deep focus and precision.
Group Reformer Pilates, on the other hand, brings energy, structure, and a motivating group dynamic. Our classes are capped at six clients, so you’ll still receive individual cues and coaching within a progressive, full-body program.
It's a consistent and engaging way to move, strengthen, and stay accountable.

2. Coaching Style & Session Flow
In private sessions, your instructor adapts every element of the session to you from spring load and movement sequencing to hands-on adjustments and cueing. You move at your own pace, with time to refine technique and focus on what your body needs most that day.

Group classes follow a set structure with room for modifications. The instructor still provides form cues and technique reminders, but attention is shared across the group. It’s ideal for those who already have some familiarity with Pilates or feel comfortable following coached instruction in a shared space.
3. Goal Focus
If your goals are specific, like improving posture, regaining strength post-pregnancy, or managing joint limitations, private sessions will help you progress faster and more safely. They also pair well with our other services like Personal Training and body composition tracking.
Group classes are excellent for general wellness: building core strength, mobility, and movement quality. They’re ideal for those looking for structured, consistent sessions to complement their weekly fitness routine.

4. Support & Accountability
With private pilates, you benefit from a high level of personal support. Your instructor tracks your progress, adjusts your plan over time, and helps guide habits outside of the session that support your results.
In group sessions, support comes from both your instructor and your peers. Many clients find the social accountability and shared rhythm of a small class incredibly motivating.
5. Investment & Flexibility
Private Reformer Pilates is a higher investment but delivers the most tailored experience. You’re building a relationship with your coach and a plan built just for you. Every detail is considered.
Group classes offer excellent value and make it easier to train multiple times per week. Our small class sizes of up to 6 people ensure high coaching quality while keeping sessions accessible and dynamic.
